Dixon Fire Chief Greg Lewis has announced that Engineer/Paramedic Randy Shafer has been named as Dixon's 2018 Firefighter of the Year. Randy has been with the Department for 13 years starting back in 2006 as a Firefighter/Paramedic, eventually obtaining the rank of Engineer in 2015. He has also successfully completed a task book and test to qualify him to fill in as a Fire Captain.
Randy’s ancillary duties include Apparatus maintenance, Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) maintenance and off-road driver training. He is a member of the Solano County Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team, and has served as a proctor for the bay area USAR training event known as Urban Shield. Randy is also a member of the instructor cadre for the Solano County Fire Control III live fire training burns.
