Mayor’s Message It is my pleasure to serve as the Mayor of the City of Dixon since December 2008. I currently serve as a Board member for the Solano Transportation Authority, Yolo/Solano Air Quality Management District, City/County Coordinating Council, Local Agency Formation Commission, and the Solano Economic Development Corporation. As Mayor, I have actively lobbied for funds for the Dixon Community. Specifically monies for the future pedestrian grade separation at B Street and the Parkway Boulevard Overcrossing that are part of a rail plan to bring a Capitol Corridor train stop in Downtown Dixon. As the Chairman of the Dixon Redevelopment Agency, I have been involved with the approvals of a Disposition and Development Agreement for an extensive rehabilitation project of the City’s former fire station into a new restaurant and dental practice in Downtown Dixon. The project “Linde Lane Tearoom” is scheduled to open in July 2010. I have also been involved in bringing an affordable 60-unit senior housing project to Dixon. As Mayor, I have seen the State of California confiscation of RDA funds and property and sales tax shifts away from Dixon’s General Fund. The current recession has greatly impacted our City Revenues but our organization continues to cut expenditures and is using one time reserves to balance the budget for this fiscal year. As Mayor, I continue to plan into the future for the residents and businesses in Dixon. We are currently working with the Solano Irrigation District to form a new governance structure for the water utility, DSMWS. In the late summer of 2010, the Council will be considering entering into a Joint Powers Authority with the Solano Irrigation District to deliver water service to our current and future customers. The City continues to work under our current Cease and Desist Order from the State Regional Water Control Board to reduce salinity at Dixon’s Waste Water Treatment Plant. The Council is currently examining options to encourage residents to exchange brine generating water softeners for more ecologically friendly water softener systems to meet this state mandate. As Mayor, I will be happy to discuss any Dixon issues with you. Dixon is a great City to live and to conduct business. Please contact me via email at jbatch.dxncouncil@sbcglobal.net or by telephone 707-678-9317.
Sincerely, Jack Batchelor, Jr. |
